Types of Funds
Setting up a fund is quick and easy—usually taking less than 30 minutes! We offer several types of funds to help donors meet their philanthropic goals:
- Endowed Fund – A long-term fund where the principal is invested, and grants are made from earnings above the original gift.
- Pass-Through Fund – A flexible fund where the entire balance can be spent.
- Agency Fund – Established by a nonprofit to benefit from the foundation’s investment management while maintaining ownership of assets.
- Designated Endowed Fund – A permanent fund created to support a specific nonprofit or cause. If the organization ceases to exist, funds are redirected to a similar mission.
- Field of Interest Fund – Supports specific causes like education, healthcare, or the arts. Donors can participate in grant decisions or rely on the foundation’s expertise.
- Scholarship Fund – Helps students pursue education based on donor-selected criteria. The foundation manages applications and distributions.
- Unrestricted Fund – Supports the community’s greatest needs, including emergency relief, such as during COVID-19. These funds ensure long-term community support. We call ours the Greater Rome Impact Fund
- Donor Advised Fund – A flexible and tax-advantaged way to give to charities of your choice while letting the foundation handle the administration.
Our Board of Directors ensures all funds are managed responsibly. A special committee of local leaders reviews grants from our Greater Rome Impact Fund to address community needs.
