Make a Lasting Impact with a Donor-Advised Fund

Your generosity. Your priorities. Your community.

You care about making a difference. A donor-advised fund (DAF) at the Community Foundation for Greater Rome makes it easier to support the causes and organizations that matter most to you.

A DAF is a flexible charitable giving account that allows you to make contributions, receive eligible tax benefits, and recommend grants to nonprofit organizations over time.

Think of it as a simpler alternative to establishing a private foundation—with less paperwork and a local partner to help you make the most of your generosity.

How Does a Donor-Advised Fund Work?

1. Make a charitable gift: Establish your fund with a gift of cash, appreciated securities, or other assets we can accept. You may be eligible for a charitable tax deduction in the year you contribute.

2. Let your charitable dollars work for you: Your contributions become part of the Community Foundation's pooled investment portfolio, with the opportunity for growth over time. You can add to your fund whenever you choose.

3. Support the causes you care about: Recommend grants to eligible charities whenever you're ready. Support organizations here in Greater Rome or across the country. We handle the administration, due diligence, and grant distributions.

Why Choose the Community Foundation for Greater Rome?

Give on your schedule. Contribute to your fund when the timing makes sense for you, then recommend grants to charities over time.

Simplify your giving. Receive one charitable acknowledgment for each contribution to your fund instead of managing receipts from multiple organizations.

Give with confidence. We handle the administrative details and review organizations before distributing grants.

Make giving a family tradition. Involve your children or grandchildren in charitable decisions and create a plan for continuing your giving in the future.

Benefit from local knowledge. We know Greater Rome. We understand its needs, its nonprofit organizations, and the opportunities to make a meaningful difference.

Keep your philanthropy connected to home. When you establish or transfer a donor-advised fund to the Community Foundation, you support a local organization committed to strengthening Greater Rome—even when your charitable grants benefit organizations elsewhere.

Is a Donor-Advised Fund Right for You?

Donor-advised funds aren't just for major philanthropists. They can be useful for individuals and families at different stages of life.

The Busy Professional: You want to support several charities but don't have time for complicated recordkeeping. A DAF simplifies your giving and allows you to recommend grants when it's convenient.

The Family That Wants to Give Together: You want to share your values with your children and grandchildren. A family DAF creates opportunities to make charitable decisions together and build a tradition of generosity.

The Business Owner Planning for the Future: You're preparing for a business sale, retirement, or another major financial transition. A DAF may offer a way to make a charitable contribution during a higher-income year while supporting your favorite causes over time.

Already Have a Donor-Advised Fund?

Your charitable giving doesn't have to be managed by a national organization.

If you have a DAF elsewhere, you may be able to recommend transferring its assets to the Community Foundation for Greater Rome, subject to the sponsoring organization's policies.

You'll retain the ability to recommend grants to eligible charities while gaining a local partner who understands the community you call home.
