Financial Advisors
Your clients want to make a difference. We help you turn that desire into purposeful giving.
You know your clients and their financial goals. We know charitable giving and our local community.
The Community Foundation for Greater Rome works alongside financial advisors, CPAs, and attorneys to help clients turn charitable intent into action. We can help you explore giving options, facilitate charitable gifts, establish funds, and provide ongoing administration—while you remain your client's trusted advisor.
As a 501(c)(3) public charity, the Community Foundation can accept a variety of charitable gifts and help you and your clients navigate the giving process.
We accept:
Cash
Publicly traded securities
Mutual funds
Bonds and other publicly traded investments
Gifts of appreciated assets may provide significant tax advantages depending on the donor's individual circumstances. We work with you while encouraging donors to rely on their own tax, legal, and financial advisors for advice specific to their situation.
Charitable giving can be an important part of a client's broader financial and estate planning. Depending on the client's circumstances, opportunities may include:
Gifts of appreciated securities
Qualified Charitable Distributions (QCDs) from eligible IRAs
Charitable contributions during high-income years
Donor-advised funds for clients who want to make a charitable contribution now and recommend grants over time
Planned and estate gifts
Qualified Charitable Distributions can support eligible charitable funds at the Community Foundation but cannot be contributed to donor-advised funds.
For clients thinking beyond their lifetime, the Community Foundation can help translate charitable intentions into a lasting plan.
Options may include:
Charitable bequests
Beneficiary designations from retirement accounts
Life insurance beneficiary designations
Charitable remainder trusts
Charitable lead trusts
Endowed funds
Succession plans for donor-advised funds
Whether a client wants to support a particular organization, a cause, or the community broadly, we can help structure the charitable component of the plan and administer the gift according to the fund agreement.
We offer several fund structures depending on what your client wants to accomplish.
Donor-Advised Funds as a flexible way to organize charitable giving. Clients make irrevocable charitable contributions to the Foundation and may recommend grants to eligible nonprofit organizations over time.
Designated Funds to provide ongoing support for one or more specific charitable organizations selected by the donor.
Field of Interest Funds support a particular charitable cause, issue, or area of interest while allowing grant recipients to change as community needs evolve.
Scholarship Funds support educational opportunities based on charitable criteria established with the donor.
The Greater Rome Impact Fund allows clients to give broadly to Rome and Floyd County. Gifts are pooled to support strategic grantmaking in response to community needs and opportunities.
Agency Funds allow nonprofit organizations to invest charitable assets through the Community Foundation for long-term or future needs.
Funds may be structured for long-term or more immediate charitable purposes depending on the donor's goals.

Why Partner With the Community Foundation?
Keep the advisor relationship where it belongs—with you. We complement the work you're already doing by providing charitable expertise, administration, and local knowledge.
We can help you explore solutions for clients with appreciated assets, concentrated charitable giving, legacy goals, or an interest in organized family philanthropy.
Give your clients flexibility. Depending on the fund structure, clients can separate the timing of a charitable contribution from the timing of grants to nonprofit organizations.
Connect giving with community knowledge. When clients want to give locally but aren't sure where to begin, we can provide information about nonprofits, community needs, and opportunities in Rome and Floyd County.
Help preserve charitable intent. For long-term and endowed funds, the Community Foundation provides ongoing stewardship designed to honor the donor's charitable purpose as circumstances change.
Work with a local partner. We're here when you need us—whether you're exploring an idea, working through a specific client situation, or simply want to better understand the charitable tools available.
When Should I Call the Community Foundation?
Consider bringing us into the conversation when a client:
Owns appreciated stock or other assets they may want to use for charitable giving.
Is selling a business or other significant asset and philanthropy is part of the conversation.
Has an unusually high-income year and wants to consider charitable giving as part of their overall planning.
Is approaching retirement and wants to plan ahead for future charitable giving.
Is updating an estate plan and wants to include charitable organizations or the community in their legacy.
Wants to involve children or grandchildren in giving and create a family tradition of philanthropy.
Has a donor-advised fund held elsewhere and would value local administration and a connection to the community.
Wants to give locally but isn't sure where to start or would like information about community needs and nonprofit organizations.
Wants to support a favorite organization or cause for generations through an endowed or other long-term fund.
Has a charitable goal but isn't sure which giving tool fits.
You don't need to have the charitable solution figured out before you call us. That's where we can help.
Bring Us Into the Conversation
You don't have to be a charitable-giving expert to introduce philanthropy into a client conversation. If a client has appreciated assets, is approaching retirement, has sold or is preparing to sell a business, is updating an estate plan, or simply wants to become more intentional about giving, we would be glad to work alongside you.
We would be honored to support you and your clients. Whether you'd like to explore a charitable strategy, discuss a specific situation, or simply learn more about the Community Foundation, let's talk.
